It eventually fails. In my experience: there's always browning/burning around resisters (like in your pictures) leading from the transistors. You blog kinda ties in with my earlier thoughts (at the time) the transistor is failing. Being that I'm not qualified; I didn't try a repair (too fearful of causing a fire or something). It would be however interesting to find-out If it was merely a simple repair of replacing the affected components, before the unit actual dies.
