Philips Videopac+ G7400 RGB/Composite Hack – Repair – Recap

I have received a gift from my dear friend Andrea Pierdomenico a Videopac+ G7400 console with the BASIC Microsoft module and some cartridges that go into my collection of videopac cartridges.

This console running smoothly but with some problems.

  • Power button not working (as usual)
  • A capacitor of the power supply section has a broken leg.

The works that have been made:

  • Replacing the power switch with a compatible one.
  • Full recap of the power supply section.
  • RGB/Composite HACK for unparalleled video output.
  • RF Module Removal.
  • Shifted the 220V Power Cable into the hole of the RF antenna.
  • Two video cables (Composite-Audio / RGB-Audio)

Videopac+ G7400 RGB/Composite Hack (components that need to be added):

All the works that have been made are documented in the photos below:

    Hey xAD, how are you? I’ll do this exact mod on my G7400 (in fact I was researching about it yesterday, talk about coincidences!) and I was wondering: do you think it would be possible to convert the G7400 from 50 to 60Hz, by replacing a crystal?

    Thank you!

    Do you have any details on the replacement power switch?

    @Alainneke

    Unfortunately you have to look for a similar one and adapt it as i did.

    Hello From Boston Ma. (U.S.A)
    ..I have a Friend that’s G7400 has a power supply issue, he plugged it in and heard a pop.. assuming it’s a cap, seen what you did to your power supply, do you have a Parts list on what to replace? would like to recap his and see if that’s the issue, many thanks to you.. take care ..

    @Chris Dota

    Probably a polyester or electrolytic capacitor is exploded. Replace all capacitors.

    I don’t have a list of the capacitors, i have read the value on it.

    listen need to ask .. 2night I did find a popped Cap, replaced it plugged it in was still dead..
    then i said ok i have a parts console i know it worked, took the power supply out of that one put it in the console with the issue.. plugged it in still dead.. then before i unplugged it “POP” the same cap on my spare Board popped.. any thoughts??

    @Chris Dota

    Probably there is a fault on the main mainboard or other, unfortunately remotely it is really difficult to repair something and given the long distance between you and me it is not even convenient to repair.

    Try to find a good repairman in your area or buy a new console, solution probably much cheaper.

    Curioso che da composito a RGB cambi l’aspect ratio della schermata, qualcuno sa perché?

    Tengo un equipo como éste, con manual y varios juegos, quisiera venderlo pero no conozco su valor.
